Science synergies in the era of the Thirty-Meter-Telescope
The 2019 edition of the TMT Science Forum will be held on Xiamen Island, China, on November 4-6, 2019.
The meeting will take place on the beautiful campus of Xiamen University, whose facilities are made available to host members of the TMT international astronomical community. The TMT Science Forum is the prime opportunity to learn about the Thirty-Meter-Telescope, get an update on its design and construction, discuss its science capabilities, and become involved in shaping the observatory's future.
The theme for the 2019 Forum is "Science synergies in the era of the Thirty-Meter-Telescope”. As a result, a special emphasis will be made towards discussing scientific synergies between the TMT and space/ground -based facilities operating in the 2030s, especially facilities with a strong involvement from China such as the Square-Kilometer-Array (SKA), the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), The Chinese Space Station Telescope (CSST), Einstein Probe or the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry Mission (eXTP), to cite just a few.
Transformative science to be done with the TMT and its suite of instruments will be discussed throughout all domains of astrophysics, keeping in mind the synergetic multi-wavelengths approach to address fundamental questions about the nature of our universe throughout its ages, from our immediate solar neighborhood to the most distant galaxies. A special focus will be made on the operational and data-archive requirements that will enable major contributions of the TMT in the field of multi-messenger astronomy.
